The 17 Hour Work Day

Posted in Bloggers You Should Follow, entrepreneurs by Kevin Douglas

Today’s guest post from Maren Kate from the Escaping the 9 to 5 blog where she blogs about starting a small business and entrepreneurship. This is the second in my “Bloggers You Should Follow” series. Maren is an awesome entrepreneur who is an expert in hiring virtual assistants and outsourcing. I’m so glad Maren took the time out her busy schedule to give her expertise.  Take it away, Maren Kate!

The first question people normally ask about entrepreneurship is “how much time does it take”. There are two answers for that, I believe many people read books like The Four Hour Workweek and think it’s immediate – when in fact Tim Ferriss worked long & hard to get to that point.

The first answer is: it takes a long time. The second answer is: if you’re smart and savvy you can leverage your time and cut in half the time it takes to reach success.

How you may ask? Well it’s the secret behind my 17 hour work day – that at first glance sounds back breaking but in reality provides me with a life where for the most part I can do what I want, when I want.

Thanks for stopping by, Murray.

Hiring a manager that serves as the go between VAs is indeed, pretty sweet. I haven't tried this technique, but I'm really thinking about it. I think I haven't yet, because I'm a control freak. lol

Delegation has just gotten a little easier.

Wow, I've heard (and used) virtual assistants but this takes the cake: treating them like a manager.

I think that would work really well for a lot of people because for those that are coming from a traditional business mindset (40 hours a week, boss, etc) it's hard to break away from it all right away.

If you setup your VA as your manager, you could still be the boss but they could quickly delegate what really needs to be done so you're not overwhelmed and caught up on the little details.

I like that :)

Yah for Maren! I dig her blog too and it's good to see her on your site. I'm really interested in delegating more work to VAs so I'm looking forward to the new business she mentioned.

Thanks for the comment, Lauren. Maren Kate is a great person and it was a pleasure having her drop in. She definitely has great information to share.
